Finally Agent Carter miniseries came to a season finally, and I must say that I was pretty satisfied! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning next week, and I wish it could be as good as Agent Carter..
I realized that there is still a continuity problem between the finale and the Marvel One Shot: Agent Carter. Now, how would they make that work, I wonder…
I was having a good time with my Nike Pegasus (check the post here), until one of my office colleague spoilt my joy with the Nike Pegasus, saying that thou shalt not wear jeans with running shoes and hammering me with some links to prove that (like here, and here). Seriously, I was having a good time with my Peggy and jeans, but maybe it’s a good idea to find another shoes..
So I was walking around on the Valentine’s day yesterday when, guess what, I came across some shops at Grand Indonesia that offers a buy 1 get 1 fot v-day promo! That’s right, maybe retailers currently have inventories with level up to their necks that they have to utilize any possible events to justify cutting prices.. Sounds good for consumer these days, huh. I came across the Converse store. They are famous for selling the Chuck Taylor All-Stars shoes, which basically is a canvas shoes with rubber toe cap and sole. The shoes gained popularity when a basketball player and Converse shoe salesman Chuck Taylor began endorsing the shoes. He also improved the shoes design and later become the product spokesperson. It became popular with basketball players at that time, and the popularity spreads into various subculture.. Nowadays, baketball players don’t wear Chucks anymore, however its popularity lives on.
I then bought a pair of Chucks, as you may have guessed. The black one are classic, but I need to distinguish myself with others so I pick the grey one. It also has red stripes on the toe cap, making it looks cool. There are mid and low top sneakers, however I picked the low one as the retailer had more color options for the low top one.
The soles, at first, felt stiff. So stiff that I wonder if basketball players actually played on these shoes. But after some walking around the mall, the soles began to soften and became more flexible. Nice.
I guess I gonna walk around these for a while now. This is technically a basketball shoes, so yes you can wear these with jeans. Haleluyah, man. Anyway, you may have wondered what happens to the free pairs of Chucks, but I elaborately omit that story. Haha.
I found this funny illustration on the web. This brightens my day a bit, I suppose!
How does a bored office worker entertain oneself after a long long hours of work? Playing games? Eat fancy food? Maybe do a run at the gym? Or watch the television? After wasting a stupid amount of time commuting from home to work, being a couch potato has its own merit, perhaps. Now there’s a new TV series in town: Marvel’s Agent Carter. And it was launched conveniently during the mid-season break of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. That seems to leave Marvel fans not much choice for TV shows, right?
A bit background: I can say that I’m a Marvel kind of guy, rather than a DC one. Despite the barrage of superheroes movies these days, I still find that they do a good job in entertaining the masses, while at the same time milking the franchise to the max. Now, you Marvel freaks might remember that there is a special footage on Iron Man 3’s DVD which happens to be a Marvel One Shot on Agent Carter! It basically tells you what happened to Peggy Carter one year after Captain America drove the Red Skull’s aircraft to the Antarctic: she become a bored data compiler at S.S.R. instead doing the field works she used to do back then. The short movie ended with her carrying a one-woman mission, kicked the bad guy’s ass and took off to establish the S.H.I.E.L.D.
The story, as you might have thought, should have ended there.. but apparently Marvel has something else in mind. They launched the TV series of ‘Agent Carter’ with the premise:
In 1946, Peggy Carter must balance the routine office work she does for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (S.S.R) while secretly assisting Howard Stark, who finds himself framed for supplying deadly weapons to the top bidder. Carter is assisted by Stark’s butler, Edwin Jarvis, to find those responsible and dispose of the weapons.
OK, that sounds promising.. but wait, what happened to the Marvel One Shot: Agent Carter?
If I watched the premier correctly, it appears that the TV series assumes that all the events in the One Shot didn’t happen. Well, that’s too bad, despite it commercially makes more sense. But how does the new TV series fare?
I have only watched the first two episodes, and I find that it was still kind of… slow. It is nice to see how the producers threw us back to the 1940s.. lots of jazz music, sexist workplace.. where Peggy Carter has to stood up to all of these, while at the same time helping Howard Stark clean his name (and seriously, what is Howard up to this time?), dealing with her grief over Captain America’s disappearance and her fear of dragging people close to her into danger.
Let’s see how this series goes. I hope it does not go into a tedium that plagued the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
.. than a free cup of coffee! The famous 1/15 Coffee from Jakarta is opening at Indonesia Stock Exchange Tower 1 (just across 7-Eleven, same booth as Namas), and they are giving away free cups of coffee for 50 first visitors every day from 12-16 January 2015. Too bad this can’t last forever.
So what are you waiting for? I know that there’s no such thing as free lunch (same case with a free cup of coffee), however you can grab your free cup now and think about karma later!
The movie has been around for a very long time, but finally I got to watch it. And also get to know why so many people thinks the movie is inspirational. Despite having low IQ, Forrest Gump never think of himself as disadvantaged, and he just do what he want to do with all his heart. And he succeeded. These days people complain so much and rarely get anything starting. They keep missing the Forrest for the tree, and they need to watch this movie. Pun intended.
Running is my sport. I started to run since I start working back in 2007. I started running using my boring black pair of Reeboks, and in 2010 I ventured into new pairs of Nikes. After a streak not-so-good luck with some Nikes, I finally settled with Nike Free Run 2. I run on those for 4+ years of over 300km, often use the shoes as my walk-around sneakers, and now it’s time for retirement.
So I settled on the Nike Pegasus 31 Flash. I had my eyes on the Pegasus 30 back in 2013, but I felt the shoes was heavy, despite the plushy cushion. Last year, Nike introduced the Pegasus 31 and they have the flash version – basically it adds the water repellant and extra reflectivity feature. Perfect for the moody Jakarta weather currently. And the color for their flash version is much much better than the Pegasus 30 flash version – a big plus.
As with the other bored Jakartans, I have to name the shoes that I buy using my hard-earned savings.. I once decided to name it Agent Carter, as the cute name of Pegasus is Peggy and in order to honor the Agent Peggy Carter which happens to be the Captain America’s old flame… But then I think Peggy would be just fine.
I took it for a test run the next day. Many reviews say that this version of Pegasus is a different beast from its predecessors, and it turns to be the case. First, it is not as plushy as Pegasus 30. And second, it feels lighter. Both of the new feats make the shoes feel more responsive and fun to ride. But it boils down to your running preference, of course.
The drawback of the flash version is that the shoes have less breathability. The shoes warm up quicker, and during the cold morning run, you’ll feel like running on fire – I’m exaggerating of course. It’s pretty okay for shorter runs (5 km), but I’m yet to see whether it’s bearable for longer runs. The good side is that it repel water – perfect for rainy runs, and with the warm feeling that would heat up even the coldest of the feet when running in these, some people with lack of commitment may find the shoes fitting.
So far, my experience with the Peggy has been good. If you don’t need the flash feature but you want the new Peggy, Nike also has the volt/black version that’s currently on sale in some major Nike outlets in Jakarta. That one looks kinda electro-cute, but I’d choose the flash version anyway since the flash version enables you to make crazy fun photos using the reflective feature! And not to mention that it also makes you look cool when visiting the malls. Makes you look less mundane, indeed.
Update: the cushioning was stiff at first, but after 10km run, it softens. The sole also becomes more flexible, which makes the run more enjoyable. I figure that the shoes will get even better when they hit 20km.
Time goes by, and now it’s 2015 already. This year, I decide to try out something – doing a regular blogging. I used to do this long time ago, and then along the way I was also running a business. I have to make sure everything I type and post is perfect. But at the end of the day, I am just a bored office worker trying to find out something interesting out of the daily life. Talking about the life of the middle-class in Jakarta.
So if you happen to stumble upon this page – well done. Hopefully this blog can interest you and help you find refuge from the mundane reality.
